Morocco
So. Morocco.

By far my favorite place was Marrakesh. It felt the most exotic to me. They had snake charmers, ladies doing hennna, monkeys dancing, etc. I bought a beautiful necklace there as well as a lantern. In Fes, we saw the tanneries (where J graciously bought me TWO purses). It was fascinating to see the men working the hides in all the vats of dye. I loved the mosaic tilework that was everywhere – so much detail it was almost overwhelming! We also ate at Rick’s Cafe in Casablanca. The food was really great and we had such fun. Of course, it was impossible to find – our driver spoke Arabic and French but no English. We spoke English, and, well, English. After a harrowing ride thru the souk, where he would lean out the window and ask people where Rick’s Cafe was, we finally just managed to get him to STOP and let us out. *whew* We managed just fine after we got rid of him. I also loved the Roman ruins at Volubis. We had an extremely knowledgeable guide and I found the ruins fascinating. There was a beautiful Moorish garden in Rabat as well as huge mosques everywhere.
