Merry Merry

Merry Christmas! We had a very nice one – I felt showered with gifts this year, which is so overwhelming. J was so generous. He brought me a fantastic gold necklace from his trip to Turkey – (also two other necklaces and a pair of earrings! With that much jewelry he doesn’t have to buy anything for Vday OR our anniversary.)

J’s mom is an artist – and she surprised me with a painting of Sophie! We caught a wonderful pic of the original and her doppleganger:

Seriously, isn’t that the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?! It’s particularly welcome as Sophie has really faded in the last few months…her hearing has completely gone, she’s obviously achy with arthritis, and is just so much slower than she used to be. I am not sure how much longer I’ll have her. She’s been such a delight to me; I can’t imagine life without her. It is so wonderful to have such a nice memory of her!

With mom & dad here, we’ve went to a couple of Christmas markets – here’s me in Aachen.

The day we went to Aachen was the only day of sunshine we’ve had the entire week the ‘rents have been here! It’s been terribly grey and overcast. Mom even commented this morning how awful it is. She couldn’t believe we can go days and days without seeing blue sky or the sun! As this is my third winter, I suppose I’m just used to it now. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to move back somewhere where it is sunnier, of course.

I hope you all had a blessed and merry holiday. We certainly did. Oh, and Christmas cards were mailed out today. Finally.
