2007

I love the start of a new year, don’t you? Everything is so fresh and shiny – the calendar clean and clear. It’s encouraging to look at all those empty white squares just waiting to be filled with life. Of course, then real life kicks in and you have a dozen scribbled notes all over the month before the end of the first week. SIGH.

Theoretically, 2007 will be our last year in Europe. I say theoretically because with the military one never knows. We could be here another year or three – who knows? It’s wierd to think that I have NO IDEA where in the world we’ll be living a year from now. It’s annoying, scary and a teeney bit thrilling to be left wondering where they will send us next. There’s a part of me that just enjoys the daydreaming about what might happen, and another part that just wishes someone would tell me NOW so I can have a plan. I’m just a little bit of a control freak, so it’s would be nice to have a plan.

Anyhow, other than not know where in the world we’re supposed to move come October, 2007 looks to be a great year! J & I sat down the first few days of January and tried to plan out our final few vacations in Europe. We decided to work on the assumption that we’ll be moving back stateside in October/November and plan accordingly. We both listed our few final must sees – Ireland is mine, Tunisia is J’s. Seriously, I have decided that if I don’t see Dublin and the rest of Ireland I might just die. (Here’s a tour that looked good.)

Here’s how 2007 looks travelwise for us:
.this month – Rome. We’re going for just three nights, but it will be enough to hit all the highlights, I think.
.March – USA. The latest member of the Lucci Clan, Braydon P., is expected to make his debut at the end of February and we can’t wait to meet him. It’s a bit of a grand sweep for me & J – Baltimore to Dallas to Bryan and I’m hoping to add a jaunt to Phoenix in as well. This trip is going to cost a small fortune, so we’ll see. I really hope to see a lot of my friends, I miss you all dearly!
.April – Prague. Erica and I are taking a week to see Prague and maybe a bit of the Czech Republic. Expect lots of crazy pictures from that week.
.June – Ireland. This is where I’m hoping to talk J into the tour I linked to above. If not the tour, then definitely just us heading to Dublin for a few days. I’d really like to see the countryside, but they drive on the wrong side of the road. So not sure how we’d do on our own.
.August – Bavaria. We’re planning a week down in Garmish, Germany to explore the Bavarian region and to dip our toes into Austria.

So that’s what’s on our plate for now. We’ll probably spend every spare penny we have on travel this year – there’s always more to see in Europe. Makes me think of that Eddie Izzard line: “I grew up in Europe…where the history comes from.” hee.

I’m so jealous that y’all are going to Ireland! One day I will make it there.

Oh, Garmish is fabulous! We stayed at the hotel that the military owned when we visited (I wonder if they still own that?) so the rates were great. I would have preferred the experience of staying in a German guesthouse, but … well, it left money for other things!

I’m looking forward to your traveling photos this year!

They do still own it – in fact, they have built a new resort in the same location. J & I went there for our 1st anniversary and it was lovely.
