The real update.

J & I were delighted to find out on April 1st that we are expecting our first child. We couldn’t be more excited! Well, also scared and nervous, but mostly excited.

Thing is, until yesterday, we thought I was 8-10 weeks along. A sonnagram revealed that actually I’m 17 weeks pregnant! That’s *4* months. How does that happen, you ask? Well, see, we were moving and I thought some of my early symptoms were jet lag related. Also, I had a LOT of nausea in February & March. Not being a complete idiot, I did take a pregnancy test the first week of March. It came back negative. I didn’t think about it again until the end of the month when the nausea turned into full out morning sickness every morning. Took a test on April 1st and it was positive. By my estimate I figured I couldn’t be more than 5 weeks pregnant.

Fast forward to yesterday, when after a weekend of painful cramps & bleeding I decided to go to the emergency room. It was scary, but I’m glad I did. The technician started my sonnagram, then paused and looked at my chart. “How far along did you say you were?” I said I thought probably 8-10 weeks, not really sure. “Well, either you’re way off or this is one big baby!” Turns out I am 17 weeks, according to the measurments of the baby. (who is absolutely fine, thank goodness) They really couldn’t explain the cramps or bleeding, but the baby had a strong heartbeat and everything else inside looked good. I finally see an OBGYN this Wednesday, so I have a lot of catching up to do! Right now, my expected due date is September 25th. A little sooner than J & I had thought.

The moral of the story: don’t take the cheap store brand tests! Spring for the fancy digital one.

Me @ 16 weeks
