Baby Update: 6 months

I’m 26 weeks pregnant, which works out to me just finishing up month 6. It’s going faster now that I’m not throwing up every morning. :) J & I are getting excited about meeting Baby M in just a few months and realized it’s time for us to get cracking on the nursery. We’ve had our bedding picked out for awhile, but we’re going to try and get the crib ordered by the end of the month.

Here’s a pregnancy update for those of you that are interested:

.I passed the glucose test! *whew* It involves drinking a really nasty orange flavored glucose drink in 5 minutes then waiting an hour to have blood drawn. I was a little worried about this because I’ve craved nothing but sweets this entire pregnancy. But while it wasn’t fun, it was not nearly as bad as I expected. My sugar count levels were well below the worry zone, so I’m in good shape.

.Baby M has a strong heartbeat & is extremely active. Turns out that the tech didn’t quite get pictures of everything that needed to be seen at the ultrasound (which the dr. assures me is nothing to worry about, she was just moving too much), so we will get to have another one next month. While I haven’t had to do any kick counting yet, I can tell you this baby seems to be constantly moving, kicking and punching me!

.Current annoyances: numbness in hands when waking up, constant hunger, inability to sleep more than a couple of hours at a time, baby kicking bladder resulting in IMMEDIATE trips to bathroom, random pains in the abdomen as baby grows, backaches & headaches, as well as swollen feet and hands…fun fun!

The numbness in your hands is from swelling / fluid retention. Get a wrist brace like they use for carpal tunnel and it will help a lot. I had that bad during my pregnancy — it sucked!

Glad you passed the glucose test! And it is weird – being pregnant in Germany, I had ultrasounds at every visit back in 1992. I didn’t even know what the fetal heartbeat monitor was until I got back to the US 2 months before I delivered!
