Saying Goodbye & Skyping

Valentine’s Day this year kinda sucked because it was the day J left. But he made it special – he gave me a very sweet card & a bunch of beautiful red tulips, which made me think of spring in Germany. His flight left very early Saturday morning for Texas and there were a whole bunch of soldiers shipping out as well. It helps to know there are other families who are apart. Here’s the last picture I got of Madeline & her daddy together at the airport:

We already miss him so much. Well, I do at any rate & it’s only been a few days! I have a whole new respect for single moms – how do they do it?! It is hard work being the only parent. Between Madeline & Sophie I hardly have a minute to myself. And I think Madeline is teething, too, she was super fussy tonight getting ready for bed. Either that or she’s just missing her daddy. :)

My friend Cindy is also coping with a deployment right now, and she had warned me that while skyping is fantastic in that you can video chat, it also makes things a bit harder. I didn’t really understand what she meant until I skyped with J tonight. He loved seeing Madeline, of course, but it was hard for me to see him & not miss him even more. I got all weepy after we hung up. If things work out, I’m going to try to get down to Texas to see him off next month. We’ll have to play it by ear, because things can change day to day with his stuff. Here’s hoping!

Just catching up after being gone for WPPI — if you come to Texas and you need *anything*, don’t hesitate to ask. I know you both have family here, but my schedule is really flexible, and I would love an excuse to see you!
