Yakima Valley
The weekend before J left, my parents came out to stay with Madeline & Sophie for the weekend so we could go away. We took a short trip over the mountains to Yakima Valley. It isn’t that far – maybe 2.5 hours or so – and we had a lovely time. I can’t wait to go back when it’s warmer & more wineries are open!

It was cold – here I am at Bonair Winery. We enjoyed tasting their wines & it’s a beautiful place. In the summer, they have live music and tapas served outdoors with beautiful views of the mountains. J bought a very nice bottle of port here. The woman running the tasting room was the mother of 3 – all of whom are serving in the military. She very graciously offered us a 10% military discount on our purchase. Highly recommend!

We were also surprised at how the scenery changes as you go over the mountains…it is a huge change – all of a sudden it looks very desert like. It’s quite interesting. I hope we’ll go again & perhaps get down to Prosser. I’d really like to visit the Snoqualmie vineyards. I’m a big fan of their very affordable (found it for $6 on sale at Safeway) Whistle Stop Red. It’s a Cab-Merlot blend.
We had a great couple of days enjoying our time alone together. We even managed to make it three whole hours before we called to check on the baby! (heh. and then called every couple of hours after that.) Madeline was fantastic for her grandparents – sleeping 10 & 12 hours nights while we were away. Of course, first night we were home, she had me up at 3am, but I guess that’s just because she missed me.
