January 2010
Wow, January just blew right past me!
J’s been traveling a lot, unfortunately, but Madeline & I keep plenty busy with friends, playgroup & Little Gym. I think this will be our last semester in Little Gym (we’ll move on to a more preschool like activity, hopefully), but Madeline loves it – she really likes to walk the balance beam, with help of course!
Also, my parents were able to come out for a visit this month, which was great! Madeline really took to her Nana & Papa – no shyness at all.
My parents even graciously babysat one afternoon so J & I could go watch a movie (The Blind Side – we liked it)
Madeline has had a little trouble with the nursery at Church – she’s cried every time we’ve left her…enough that our number gets flashed up on screen. We’re hoping that will get better over time. Cross your fingers! I know it’s normal, but it just rips your heart out to hear your kid crying for you.
This weekend J & I also went on a real date – we met another couple (he served with the husband in Afghanistan) at Salty’s on Alki. We even had *gasp* a babysitter. Not that she had to do anything – we put Madelne down before we left. She’s the daughter of one of J’s coworkers and seemed responsible enough, just so young – 17! (gosh, was I that young EVER??? I sure don’t remember it.)
Anyhow, it was nice to get out, but Salty’s, while having gorgeous views back of the city – even on a rainy/foggy night – was waaay overpriced. We didn’t feel at all the food was worth the cost – and the service was slow. Definitely won’t be going back. I suppose it’s good for the tourists, but not worth it to us! But the company was really good & Madeline was sleeping peacefully when we got back, so all in all I count it a successful evening! We’ll definitely have Megan sit for us again.

You should be used to slow service…you lived in Europe for 4 years!

Next time call me – I’ll refer you to one of the many restaurants we frequent (definitely one area where we could save buckets of money!). Glad to hear the babysitter experience worked out – we could use a night out too (but alas, B is in Charleston, SC so I’m a lonely wife this week!).

Oh Karen…I ran church nurseries at 3 different parishes and I can remember some sad little ones…it’s definitely not unusual. She’ll get used to it & all will be well…do have to say I never had to call get a parent, but I had to do some pretty crazy faces and wacky dances to get “happy babies!” Oh…and get a load of this: remember I had Thomas at 19. Well, our first date was when Thomas was 3 weeks old & our sitter was…..11 years old!!!! Granted, she lived in the cul de sac and her mom was home but seriously, I think about that now & think I must have been young and dumb!!!! FYI…she did great!
