Catching up

How is it March already?
February: we celebrated J’s birthday and kept busy with Little Gym, playgroup and the like. We had yet ANOTHER bout with a stomach bug that was no fun, but somehow J managed to avoid it this time. I just can’t understand why I get so much sicker than Madeline. I had a raging fever in addition to all the fun things that go along with stomach upsets. Poor J actually had to take a day off work to care for Madeline! Two viruses in three months has got to be a record for me. Surely I must have built up some antibodies to this stuff by now, right??
I can hardly believe Madeline’s going to be 18 months in a couple of weeks…she’s such a big girl now! She talks nonstop. Her favorite words? “Bubble.” “Outside.” “See-See.” (=Sophie) “NO.” She’s spending a lot of time challenging & pushing boundries, but she’s also one of the sweetest kids I know. How is it even possible that she drives me crazy & makes me proud all in the same moment? She’ll hold hands with anyone she can convince to walk with her, loves sliding at the playground & reading books. I think her favorite is The Very Hungry Caterpillar, based on the number of times I’m forced to read it!
I recently read Richard Hammond (of Top Gear fame) book “On the Edge” – and he has this bit where he says that being a parent is how you know you’re grown up – you go home with this baby & there’s no one to tell you what to do next. (er, well, it’s something like that) I still feel like I have NO IDEA what to do next, but we’re getting by. Madeline seems to be happy & hopefully will require only minimal therapy after enduring me as a mom.

Indeed. I saw you put your baby in a swimming pool and then take her back out again without any drowning-related incidents. That’s better than I’d have done!
